- Local Area Information:
- Bogota, prior to 1898, had a population of less than 400. But in 1889, the Bergen Traction Company was granted a franchise to run a trolley terminating at River Road. This trolley connected with Leonia, Englewood, Fort Lee,and the 125th Street ferry from New York City. Throngs of people, both young and old, from New York took advantage of the trolley rides on hot summer evenings.
Today, Bogota is a thriving community of over 8,000. The closeness of New York City is still one of its primary assets. The commute, however, has changed to New York Transit buses and perhaps in the near future, to a light rail system. Almost half of the 2,800 households have children. The median age for the town is 63 so there is a mix of young families and retirees.
